THE SHORT ANSWER

The cost depends on how much of it changes.

Scope decides the price more than anything: are only the tiles being renewed, are the sanitaryware and shower changing, or is it a complete job including plumbing and waterproofing? Then come size, materials and the state of the building. When two quotes for the same bathroom are far apart, it's usually because one of them leaves out the waterproofing or the plumbing.

A typical apartment bathroom takes 7–12 working days. Send photos and we reply on WhatsApp with a first price; the exact price follows in writing, fixed, after a free site visit.

WHAT DRIVES THE COST

Four things to read on any bathroom quote

  1. Scope — what's changing

Re-tiling, changing the sanitaryware and shower, and rebuilding from scratch with new plumbing are three different jobs. The first line of a quote should say which one is priced.

  2. Layout — is anything moving

If the WC, shower or basin moves, the waste and supply pipes are re-run and the screed and falls are rebuilt around them. Keeping fittings where they are lowers the cost.

  3. Materials — tile format and fitting grade

Large-format tiles need a flatter base and more labour; concealed cisterns and built-in mixers need work inside the wall. Without brands and models on the quote, you can't compare.

  4. The building — pipe age and leak history

Old galvanised pipes, an earlier leak into the flat below or a high screed level enlarge the job. These are found on the survey and written into the quote as their own lines.

THE INVISIBLE LAYER

What's under the tiles protects the ceiling below.

Scroll to watch a bathroom floor built up layer by layer: the old finish comes out, screed and falls go in, corners are taped, two coats of waterproofing go on, and only then the tiles.

  1. 1Old finish out
  2. 2Screed & falls
  3. 3Primer
  4. 4Corner tape
  5. 5Membrane coat 1
  6. 6Membrane coat 2
  7. 7Tiles

On our jobs, a two-coat liquid membrane, corner tapes and a water test before tiling are standard. Whoever you hire, ask for that test after the membrane cures and before any tile goes down.

THE RIGHT ORDER OF WORK

Get the order wrong and the leak shows up downstairs, years later.

  1. Strip-out

Removing old tiles, sanitaryware and units, and clearing the debris.

  2. Plumbing & electrics

Renewing supply and waste pipes; re-running sockets and lighting to the new layout.

  3. Screed & falls

Relaying the floor with a fall that carries water to the drain.

  4. Waterproofing

Full tanking of the wet area — skipping it is the costliest mistake in the job.

  5. Tiling

Floor and wall tiling, grout and silicone details.

  6. Fit-out & handover

Sanitaryware, units, mirror and accessories; clean and snag list.

HOW LONG IT TAKES

Curing times can't be rushed.

A typical apartment bathroom takes 7–12 working days. Part of that is waiting: the screed and the waterproofing have to cure, and rushing them is the most common quality failure. If there's no second bathroom or WC, we agree the days you'll be without one up front and give the schedule in writing.

SMALL BATHROOMS

In a small bathroom, every centimetre is a decision.

A concealed cistern, choosing a shower over a bath, light large-format tiles and the right lighting are the decisions that make a small bathroom feel bigger. The detail is in our small-bathroom guide.

DO YOU NEED A PERMIT

Usually it's the building, not the municipality.

A bathroom renovation that doesn't touch the structure or common parts generally doesn't need a municipal permit. The building's working hours, debris and lift rules still apply. If the shared riser pipe is involved, the management's approval is needed. Anything that removes walls or touches structural elements may need a permit and an engineer's opinion.

General information, not legal advice — check your building's management plan.

TENANT OR LANDLORD

Who pays for what, briefly.

Under the Turkish Code of Obligations the landlord must keep the property fit for use (art. 301), so worn-out plumbing or a shower enclosure that fails on its own is usually the landlord's matter. The tenant pays the cleaning and upkeep costs that normal use requires (art. 317), and damage caused by misuse can be the tenant's.

QUESTIONS

What people ask about bathroom renovation

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Istanbul in 2026?

Scope decides it most: tiles only, sanitaryware and shower, or a complete job with plumbing and waterproofing. Then size, materials and the building. Send photos and we reply with a first price within 15 minutes in working hours (09:00–19:00); the exact price follows in writing, fixed, after a free visit.

Do you work in English?

Yes. The quote, the schedule and the progress photos are handled in English, and the quote is itemised in writing, so you know exactly what you're paying for.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

A typical apartment bathroom takes 7–12 working days. Screed and waterproofing curing times can't be compressed — rushing them is the most common quality failure. We give the exact schedule in writing after the visit.

Can you tile over the old tiles?

Technically possible, but we don't recommend it: you can't see the state of the existing waterproofing and the floor level rises. The right way is to strip back and renew the waterproofing.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom renovation?

A bathroom renovation that doesn't touch the structure or common parts generally needs no municipal permit; the building's working hours and rules apply. If the shared riser is involved, the management must approve. General information, not legal advice.

Water is leaking into the flat below — what should I do?

First find the source: supply pipe, waste, or the waterproofing itself. We also do leak detection; depending on the source we repair that point or renew the wet zone's waterproofing. In an emergency, use our water-damage page.

Can I change only the tiles, or only the fittings?

Yes. If the plumbing is sound, re-tiling alone works; if the tiles are fine, changing just the sanitaryware and shower does. On the visit we check the pipes and tell you which makes sense.

Who buys the materials?

We can supply them, or fit the tiles and sanitaryware you choose. The quote says which, with brands and models named.

Does the tenant or the landlord pay?

As a general rule the landlord must keep the property fit for use (Code of Obligations art. 301), so worn-out plumbing is usually theirs; the tenant pays for the cleaning and upkeep that normal use requires (art. 317). Your contract and the facts decide — not legal advice.

Do you offer payment in instalments?

No — we don't offer instalment plans. Payment is split into the work stages set out in the written quote we give after the visit.

Is the workmanship guaranteed?

Yes, our workmanship comes with a written warranty. We do a final walk-round together before handover, and the job isn't finished until the snag list is clear.
