THE SHORT ANSWER
No brush marks starts with preparation.
Treated like wall paint, doors and windows look rough. Old, flaking finish isn't painted over — it's sanded, stripped where needed, and restarted with the right primer: lacquer or varnish on wood, rust-inhibiting primer then the right topcoat on steel.
WOOD AND STEEL
Two surfaces, two systems.
On wooden doors and windows, sanding and the number of coats usually set the time; on steel doors and railings, rust removal does. We confirm timing once we've seen the surface.
You can change the colour. Going lighter to darker on wood is usually straightforward; darker to lighter may need an extra coat, written into the quote up front.

We'll come for a single door.
It doesn't need to be part of a bigger renovation — one door, one window or a railing is fine. A photo and a count of doors or windows is usually enough to price it.
